Ethiopia and Somalia to collaborate to develop the aviation sector

  • There have been efforts by both Somali and Ethiopian governments to improve the economic cooperation of the two countries apart from the political and social relations. The Aviation Agreement is expected to give a further boost to the two-way ties.

Ethiopia and Somalia have signed an agreement to collaborate to develop the aviation sector. The agreement was signed by the Director General of the Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority, Getachew Mengistie and the Director of Somalia Civil Aviation Authority, Ahmad Moulin in Addis Ababa.

The signing was witnessed by the Ethiopian Minister of Transport and Logistics, Dagmawit Moges and Somalia’s Transport and Civil Aviation Minister, Fardowsa Osman Egal.

There have been efforts by both the Somali and Ethiopian governments to improve the economic cooperation between the two countries apart from the political and social relations. The Aviation Agreement is expected to give a further boost to the two-way ties.

The Air Services Agreement (ASA) signed between the civil aviation authorities of Ethiopia and Somalia on January 10th, replaces a three-decades-old ASA enacted on December 3, 1988.

Somalia’s Transport and Civil Aviation Minister Fardowsa arrived in Addis Ababa on January 9th along with a delegation to complete the aviation agreements.  According to political experts, the agreements will give a significant boost in transforming the bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
