Ethiopia and Canada to boost bilateral co-operation

Ethiopia and Canada have decided to boost bilateral cooperation by identifying potential economic sectors for economic co-operation. The announcement came through a press release issued after the meeting between Ethiopian President Sahle-Work Zewde and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in Vancouver, Canada on Wednesday. President Sahle-Work Zewde acknowledged Canada’s support to Ethiopia and said that Ethiopia was committed to further strengthening its ties with Canada. President Sahlework was in Vancouver to participate in the Women Deliver 2019 Conference.

Prime Minister Trudeau, on his part, lauded Ethiopia’s efforts to promote economic growth and promised Canada’s all support to Ethiopia’s reforms for social development and stability under the leadership of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. He also expressed his appreciation for President Sahlework’s leadership on advancing gender equality for Ethiopians.

The two leaders underlined the significance of investing in grassroots women’s organizations to usher fundamental change and welcomed the launch of the Equality Fund. He also lauded Ethiopia’s key role in building peace in the Horn of Africa, contributing to stability and prosperity in the region. Both the leaders also discussed the importance of investing in infrastructure to support growth and change.
