A lot of technological changes are taking place in Ethiopia, particularly in mobile telephony to make it user-friendly and for broadening its bouquet of services. Telebirr superApp, developed by Ethio Telecom is the latest in the block. a product developed by Ethio Telecom.

Telebirr superApp, developed by Ethio Telecom is the latest in the block. a product developed by Ethio Telecom.   The App has several utilities, such as access to various services like e-commerce, biometric authentication, food delivery, entertainment, utility bill payments, and transportation.

Having a better security system, login and registration time, and phone memory, the App is an improvement having an assortment of several new features.

Launched in May 2021, Telebirr has 30 million users. Transactions can be done with 19 banks for a variety of services such as transferring money locally and making purchases online.  It also offers micro-credit, overdraft, and micro-saving services. The micro-credit service known as Telebirr mela allows individuals, agents, and merchants to borrow and withdraw money for any transaction while the overdraft service Telebirr Endekisse allows individuals to borrow money when they are short of balance in their Telebirr account. The micro saving service, Telebir Sanduq, can help access funds interest-free. Using the App, more than 1.4 million people have borrowed a total of Birr 2.1 billion.
