According to Ethio-Djibouti Railways CEO, Abdi Zenebe, the availability of train transportation has speeded up cargo transport ensuring safety and better price of goods compared to truck transportation. The goods are delivered in less than a day. It is also planning to start the transportation of perishable goods like fruits and vegetables through refrigerated containers.

He added that Ethio-Djibouti Railways has extensively contributed to Ethiopia’s trade activities in vital goods like coffee, Ethiopia’s main export product. It also transported 55 million liters of edible oil from the port of Djibouti to Ethiopia. Ethio-Djibouti Railways he said that led to a saving of 1.1 billion Birr in logistic costs for the nation by the transportation of soil fertilizer. The company is aligning its transport services with the country’s priority sectors, he added. Very soon, Ethio-Djibouti Railways will have wagons for transporting mineral products too. Efforts are also on to provide transport services to passengers who wish to visit Ethiopia and Djibouti.

He further pointed out that Ethio-Djibouti Railways is gearing towards increasing its capacity. The company has now been able to create the capacity of transporting 240 vehicles with a single trip.

The Forum acts as a platform to promote business co-operation between African and Russian businesses.

The Moscow event is expected to attract both the private and public sectors from Africa as well as Russia. it has already received confirmation on participation from Burundi, Cote d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The objective of the event is to showcase new investment and partnership opportunities in Africa. The discussions at the Moscow convention will include Points of growth: Investment. Digitalization and Innovation. The participants will also explore the scope of setting up a Russian Trading House in Africa.

The participating African companies will have an opportunity to present their products or investment projects to the Russian business delegation. Bilateral meetings with potential Russian counterparts will also be organised.The Open Africa Business Forum has partnered with  Russia Business Association and AFROCOM and other influential corporations for the upcoming event.
