Prime minister of Eswatini Ambrose Dlamini (52) died in a South African hospital on Sunday after contracting coronavirus. He was
hospitalized in South Africa after falling sick in early December. Eswatini is one of the very few monarchies still existing. His demise was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Themba Masuku.
However, the statement by the deputy prime minister did not reveal the detailed reasons for the death of the prime minister. Dlamini in mid-November was tested positive for coronavirus., However, it was reported that the prime minister was well and recovering.

The Prime Minister, who is the head of the government, has only a limited role in ruling the country. Powers are vested with the king including appointment of all ministers. The current king is Mswati 111, who took over the rein in 1986
Formerly known as Swaziland, the kingdom of Eswatini has reported over 6,700 coronavirus cases and 127 deaths. It has a population of 1.2 million. The Swaziland Solidarity Network (SSN), a South Africa based civil liberty movement had accused the government of giving the prime minister special treatment by moving him to a country with better healthcare. It is a landlocked country and a sizable proportion of its population live below the poverty line.
