South Africa’s Minister for Electricity, Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, has said the team at Eskom was trying to find solutions to end load shedding plaguing the country. He met with Eskom management teams, to collectively find a solution to the vexatious issues, affecting the development process of the country

The country is staring at a difficult winter season ahead with the likelihood of increased national blackouts. Currently, the power cuts are there for more than 10 hours a day, affecting over 60 million people. Regular breakdowns because of lack of repair are said to be a major reason for the power cuts, coupled with years of mismanagement and corruption at the company.

The increased demand for power during the coldest winter months of June and July means that the blackouts could increase to up to 16 hours a day. The power cuts have also had a devastating effect on South Africa’s economy, which is in danger of going into recession. Eskom says load shedding is necessary to avoid a total national blackout.
