Eritrea launches a full-scale attack on Tigray region; alleges Tigrayan authorities

Tigrayan authorities say Eritrea has launched a full-scale offensive along the country’s border with northern Ethiopia. The Tigrayan authorities maintain that the fighting has considerably escalated in recent days.

The Eritreans are fighting alongside Ethiopian federal forces, including commando units, as well as the allied militia.  There are reports that Eritrean forces were shelling the surrounding areas heavily.

The U.S. envoy to the Horn of Africa Mike Hammer told the media that Washington has been tracking Eritrean troop movements across the border while condemning the movement of Eritrean soldiers in northern Ethiopia. The present turmoil is seemingly upsetting the peace process in the region and also accentuating human suffering. The region has been in the grip of a tumultuous past since 2018, leading to several deaths, injuries, loss of property, and displacement of people.
