Equatorial Guinea shows solidarity with $2 million contribution to China

 Expressing solidarity and support for China in its fight against coronavirus, the government of Equatorial Guinea has announced a solidarity contribution of $2 million to China. The contribution was approved by the cabinet last week under the chairmanship of  President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo.speaking about the decision of the cabinet, Gabriel Mbaga Obiang Lima, Minister of Mines and Hydrocarbons said that China has always been a very strong and loyal supporter of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea and the country was happy to support China in its hour of need.”The contribution is a demonstration that Equatorial Guinea stands in solidarity with China and its people as it fights a global outbreak that has already cost too many lives. “He added that “Our ongoing Year of Investment Initiative will be a testimony to the depth of our cooperation and relationship with China’’. As per the latest reports, China has lost more than 1000 people to coronavirus.

China has invested heavily in the oil-rich Equatorial Guinea. Chinese investments in Equatorial Guinea covers sectors such as telecommunication, infrastructure, and technology.

Apart from participating in the last Forum for China – Africa Cooperation, FOCAC, that took place in Beijing in 2018, President Nguema  led several delegations to China to deepen relations.
