In line with its partnership agreement with the state-owned oil company, Sonatrach, Italian oil and gas major Eni SpA has broken the ground for a second 10-MW solar park in south-eastern Algeria.
The first PV plant developed by the two companies as part of their cooperation was a 10-MW solar facility in 2018. The construction work of a third solar park at the Menzel Ledjmet East Project (MLE) production complex, in the Berkine Basin is expected to start in 2023.
The new solar photovoltaic (PV) plant located in the Bir Rebaa North (BRN) oil field in the Berkine basin will support the decarbonization drive as well as double the green energy capacity available to power the upstream processes.
