After the official launch of its Energy Transition Plan on August 24, 2022, at a global virtual event, Nigeria is scouting for global partnerships to achieve the mission. At the recent virtual launch of the Nigeria’ energy transition road map, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo stated that his country needed at least an additional $10 billion a year and a total $410 billion to deliver on its net-zero targets by 2060. According to a government statement, Nigeria has already secured a $1.5 billion pledge from the World Bank and has started negotiations with the US Export-Import Bank for an additional $1.5 billion.
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, is currently in the United States of America to seek global partnerships and support for Nigeria’s recently launched Energy Transition Plan. Prof. Osinbajo is leading Nigeria’s Energy Transition Implementation Working Group on the US mission to seek global support from the US government, the private sector, and other development partners. His programme in the US include meetings with US Vice President, Kamala Harris; US Secretary of Energy, Jennifer Granholm; Secretary of Treasury, Janet Yellen, and President of World Bank Group, David Malpass, among others.
