Burkinabé authorities recently said that four officers had been detained a day after the military government announced it had thwarted a coup attempt. The junta disclosed that the intelligence and security services had foiled the attempt the previous day. The military government has vowed to shed all possible light on this plot.

A section of the people in Burkina Faso did not take kindly to the announcement by the military junta who usurped power by removing the democratically elected government. While there is a move to distance from the Western forces, countries where the coup had taken place are increasingly improving their ties with Russia. It is also alleged that there is a considerable presence of the Russian private army Wagner in countries like Burkina Faso and Mali.
