The Ekumfi Fruits and Juices Company Limited is seeking an investor to recycle tons of its pineapple waste into organic fertilizer for agricultural purposes. The company is looking for an investor to install an Integrated Recycling and Compost Plant (IRECOP) with the ability to use the waste materials of the factory and process them into poultry feed and organic fertilizer to boost to agricultural activities.
The $8 million project, the first fruit processing factory to be established under the One-District-One-Factory scheme by the Akufo-Addo led government is expected to start production by next month. The factory has the capacity to process 10 tons of fruits per hour and produce 300 million packs of juice annually for local consumption and export. The facility funded by the Exim Bank Ghana Limited under the Agric-industrial intervention and is also projected to create over 5000 jobs and generate revenue close to GH¢530 million
Operations Director of the factory, Frederick Kobina Acquah said that it will be the biggest fruit processing factory in West Africa. He added that the company had commenced test production of it major brand “Eku juice.” More brands will come out after it receives the certification by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA).The company, was incorporated and certified to have commenced business on May 26, 2017, as a start-up company authorised to engage in the cultivation and processing of pineapples.
