The latest economic report on Egypt-China trade and economic relations reveal that trade exchange between Egypt and China surged by 27.6 percent during 2018, recording $13.8 billion. Egyptian exports crossed $1.8 billion, with an increase of 37.8 percent on a year-on-year basis. The bilateral economic ties witnessed record growth after the visit of President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi to China in 2014 when relations were upgraded to the level of strategic partnership. Beijingproposes to increase the volume of Egyptian exports and reduce the trade gap between the two countries by introducing new products in the Egyptian export basket to the China such as citrus fruits, table grapes, beet feed and Dates. As far as the Chinese investments in Egypt are concerned , according to Chinese data, 134 Chinese companies are operating in Egypt with investment touching $7 billion. The major projects with Chinese involvement include industrial sectors, including fiber glass, food industry, the new administrative capital and the economic zone of the Suez Canal.
Egypt’s exports to the United States of America also surged high touching $2.5 billion in 2018, compared to $1.6 billion in 2017.According to reports, Egypt’s imports from US reached $5.05 billion during 2018, compared to $3.9 billion in 2017, recording a growth of 26.6 percent. Egypt’s petroleum exports to US rose by 329 percent in 2018 while
non-petroleum exports grew by 14.8 percent.
