Egypt targets upping the renewable energy’s contribution to electricity generation to touch the ratio over 42% of total energy consumption by 2035. Towards that, the country has to implement electricity interconnection projects. Egypt’s intention is to emerge as a regional hub for energy trade with Arab, African and European countries.

Egypt and Saudi Arabia signed contracts to build a power linkage project that would enable the two countries to exchange around 3,000 megawatts of electricity. Of late, Egypt has signed memorandums of understanding with Cyprus and Greece to set up power interconnection projects.
The Cypriot energy minister commended the tremendous achievements made by the Egyptian Electricity Ministry and explained how the electricity linkage project would help both countries meet their clean energy requirements.
