Egypt’s non –oil exports picks up

Egypt’s non-oil exports increased during the first 10 months of 2021 by about 26 percent. This works out to   a record US$26.9 billion, as against US$21.35 billion during the same period in 2020.

All industrial sectors achieved high growth rates during the 10 months, despite the negative repercussions of the Corona pandemic, according to the report of the General Organization for Export and Import Control.

Egypt’s exports of  chemical and fertilizer increased by 42 percent during the period between January and October 2021. This works out   to a record about US$5.5.36 billion  as against US$3.77 billion.  The building materials, refractories and metal industries’ exports rose slightly by 3 percent, to reach about US$5.33 billion, compared to US$5.17 billion.

Exports from food industries grew by 19 percent during the first 10 months of 2021. It was pegged at US $3.43 billion, as against US$2.87 billion during the same period in 2020. Engineering industries exports went up by 43 percent to US$2.65 billion, compared to $1.85 billion.

The pharmaceutical and medical industries exports registered US$537 million, compared to US$409 million. It was a growth of 31 percent. The exports of leather, shoes, leather goods and clothing amounted to about US$ 70 million, compared to US$43 million, with a growth rate of 63 percent.

Egypt’s exports of agricultural crops  increased by 8 percent during the first 10 months of this year to US$2.11 billion, compared to US$1.95 billion during the same period in 2020. Meanwhile, yarn and textile exports increased by 25 percent to touch  US$746 million, compared to US$597 million in 2020 for the same period.  Home furnishings exports increased by 37 percent, to US$526 million, compared to US$382 million, and ready-made garments exports picked up by 40 percent, to US$1.62 billion for US$1.157 billion.
