Egypt’s Manufacturing Index Slides During October 2023

CAPMAS revealed that the index of chemical products increased by 4.23 percent in October to 76.56 from 73.45, while the index of wood and cork industries, excluding furniture, increased by 5.23 percent in October to 33.43 from 31.77 in September

The manufacturing and extractive industries index of Egypt, excluding crude oil and petroleum products reached 96.70 during October 2023 compared to 100.71 during September 2023, marking a drop of 3.98 percent, says the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

CAPMAS revealed that the index of chemical products increased by 4.23 percent in October to 76.56 from 73.45, while the index of wood and cork industries, excluding furniture, increased by 5.23 percent in October to 33.43 from 31.77 in September.

The index of electronics dropped by 1.73 percent in October to 110.56 from 112.51, while the index of the pharmaceutical, chemical, and medicinal products dropped 2.65 percent in October to 112.44 from 115.50 in September.

Egypt’s exports dropped by 22 percent during the initial nine months of 2023, registering USD 30.8 billion compared to $39.4 billion in the same period in 2022, according to CAPMAS data. CAPMAS reported that Egyptian imports saw a 21 percent yearly drop, amounting to USD 58.5 billion, in contrast to USD 74 billion for the same period in 2022.
