Egypt’s annual consumer price inflation  dipped to the lowest level in 14 years.  It recorded 5.7 percent in 2019-20 compared  to 13.9 percent in 2005-06, according to  the data released by the  Egyptian cabinet recently. The decline was  attributed  to marked reduction in food prices.

The annual consumer price inflation (CPI) stood at 4.6 percent in March 2020, compared to 13.8 percent in the same period last year. In Feb. 2020, Annual inflation of the country  reached 4.9 percent.

On a month to month basis, inflation recorded 105.8 points in March 2020, an increase of 0.6 percent over February 2020. The good news is that he Inflation remains within the Central Bank of Egypt’s (CBE) target range of 9 percent, plus or minus 3 percentage points. This would mean the additional expenditure incurred by the government on account of the pandemic is having no impact on the price level.
