Egypt’s exports to Japan increased by 76 percent during the first five months of 2020 at US$176 million, compared to US$100 million during the same months of 2019. This was revealed by Minister of Trade and Industry Nevein Gamea. Egypt’s imports from Japan also rose 18 percent to US$443 million, as against US$375 million during January-May period of 2019.
Carpets, ready-made clothes, electrical appliances, and dried andpreserved agricultural crops were the main export items of Egypt to Japan. The major imported items included cars, appliances, electrical machinery, plastics, and articles of rubber.
Gamea met recently with Ambassador of Japan to Egypt Noke Masaki, and discussed ways to develop the economic relations between the two countries, especially in the sectors of industry, trade and small and medium enterprises (SMEs). She said that her country is keen to have tie-ups with Japan in various economic sectors, especially in the industrial sector. In this regard, she also invited the Japanese auto industry’s participation to expand the use of vehicles powered by natural gas in Egypt.
