Egypt’s exports grow by 6%: trade deficit grows driven by more exports

·        The Egyptian non-petroleum exports has increased by 6% during the first quarter of 2021, hitting  US$7.44 billion  as against  US$ 6.99 billion at the same period in 2020

·        A 2% increase was also recorded in the Egyptian non-petroleum imports taking it to US$ 16.99 billion  in comparison with US$16.68 billion at the relevant period in 2020

·        The balance of trade deficit by 1 percent, to US$9.55 billion as  against  US$ .69 billion as compared to the previous year

The Egyptian non-petroleum exports has increased by 6% during the first quarter of 2021, hitting  US$7.44 billion  as against  US$ 6.99 billion at the same period in 2020. This was revealed by the Egyptian Cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Center.

A 2% increase was also recorded in the Egyptian non-petroleum imports taking it to US$ 16.99 billion  in comparison with US$16.68 billion at the relevant period in 2020.

That pushed up the balance of trade deficit by 1 percent, to US$9.55 billion as  against  US$ .69 billion as compared to the previous year. The data showed that chemical, engineering and medical products, fertilizers, building materials, foodstuffs, electronics and ready-to-wear garments dominated Egypt’s export list in the first quarter of 2021.
