The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) of Egypt released export data for May 2022 indicating a fall in the export value in May 2022. However, the total value of exports on a year-on-year basis has increased 18.3 percent to US$4.01 billion up from US$3.39 billion.
Fresh fruit exports declined by 23.5 percent to the US $123.1 million in May 2022 down from US$160.9 million in May 2021. The category that comes next is pasta and canned food in the pecking order of negative growth. Their value dropped by 13.7 percent to US $70.9 million from US $82.2 million in May 2021.
The exports of pharmaceuticals declined by 10.3 percent in May 2022 to a record US$22.5 million compared to US$25.1million for the corresponding month in 2021. Similarly, textile exports fell by 8.2 percent to US$17 million in comparison to US$18.6 million for the comparable period.
Plastic exports decreased by 3.9 percent to US$17.6 million instead of US$18.3 million. Also, those flat-rolled products of iron and steel went down by one percent to shrink to US$60.2 million from $60.8 million.

Exports that have picked up during the review time are petroleum and liquefied gas (44.1 percent), and brute oil (30.7 percent). The value of the former was up at the US $726.4 million from US$504 million. Export of brute oil was up the US $389 million from US$297.7 million.
