The project – implemented by a consortium of three global companies – will consist of three electrical transmission plants located in Saudi Arabia’s Medina and Tabouk, and Egypt’s Badr City connected by overhead power lines stretching on a total of 1,350 kilometers in addition to submarine cables.

Egypt’s Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy revealed that the electricity linkage between Egypt and Saudi Arabia would begin operation in Fall 2025 with a capacity of 3,000 megawatts as a first phase.

 The project – implemented by a consortium of three global companies – will consist of three electrical transmission plants located in Saudi Arabia’s Medina and Tabouk, and Egypt’s Badr City connected by overhead power lines stretching on a total of 1,350 kilometers in addition to submarine cables.

Studies were underway to raise the output of electricity linkage with Libya from 150 megawatts to 2,000 megawatts.  The output was raised from 100 megawatts to 150 megawatts in January 2023 upon the request of the Libyan side.  The line’s capacity had also been increased from 220 kilovolts to 500 kilovolts. Studies were being carried out to raise the output of electricity linkage with Jordan from 450 megawatts to 1,100 megawatts with a line capacity of 400 kilovolts.
