Egypt’s economy looks up riding on the back of buoyant extraction industry

·        Egypt’s industrial production index for transformative and extractive industries, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, moved up   8.7 percent, recording LE 183.1billion  during the first quarter (Q1) of 2021, compared to LE 118.98 billion during the same quarter of 2020, according to the government sources

·        The activity of the petroleum refining industry and the manufacture of coke oven products contributed the largest percentage to the value of industrial production during the first quarter of the year 2021

·        The value of production for the food products industry amounted to LE 39.2 billion for the first quarter of 2020, compared to LE 38.2 billion for the first quarter of 2019, with an increase of 2.4 percent

Egypt’s industrial production index for transformative and extractive industries, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, moved up   8.7 percent, recording LE 183.1billion  during the first quarter (Q1) of 2021, compared to LE 118.98 billion during the same quarter of 2020, according to the government sources.

The activity of the petroleum refining industry and the manufacture of coke oven products contributed the largest percentage to the value of industrial production during the first quarter of the year 2021.  It worked out to 28.6 percent. This was followed by the activity of extracting crude oil and natural gas by 20.0 percent.  The food products industry registered a growth of 11.0 percent of the value of industrial production.

The value of production for the food products industry amounted to LE 39.2 billion for the first quarter of 2020, compared to LE 38.2 billion for the first quarter of 2019, with an increase of 2.4 percent, while it amounted to LE 30.0 billion for the fourth quarter 2019, with an increase of 30.6 percent, due to the high demand.

In its publication, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics indicated that the value of production for the beverage industry amounted to LE 7.8 billion for the first quarter of 2020, compared to LE 5.9 billion for the first quarter of 2019,  registering an increase of 30.8 percent, while it amounted to LE 5.6 billion for the fourth quarter 2019, with an increase of 38.2 percent, due to the natural increase in seasonal production.
