The Egyptian Cabinet yesterday (Wednesday) approved a draft law on minimum wages at government entities. The lowest monthly payment is set at L.E. 2,400.

To be implemented from July 2021, the minimum salary for the premium level of employees amounts to L.E.8,400 and the  highest level is set at L.E. 6,000. The level of a general director takes at least L.E. 4,800.

The starting level employees should be paid at least L.E.2,400 monthly. It goes up progressively as the level goes up. The first level of employees  gets a minimum of L.E. 4,200 while  the second level  takes L.E. 3,600.  The third is entitled for  L.E. 3,120,  the fourth L.E.2,880 and  the fifth L.E.2,640,.

During the 2011 revolution, people demanded a law setting a minimum on wages.  At the time, the minimum salary demanded was L.E. 2,000 . However, the Egyptian pound has since been devalued. Therefore, the government raised the wages accordingly to adjust to the inflation and exchange rates.
