Hassan Allam Holding, the leading private corporation in Egypt, has expressed interest to invest in renewable energy and seawater desalination projects in Morocco.  CEO of Hassan Allam Holding Amr Allam told the press during the Africa Business Forum in Casablanca that the size of investments would depend on the scale of the renewable projects and the company’s share in them. For example, if the renewable energy plant with a capacity of 50 or 100 megawatts, the investment will range between 50 and 150 million dollars, according to the size of the project and the share of the company in the project, he explained. The Egyptian businessman added that the company had international partners who are interested in joining them in the project.

Encouraged by the existing opportunities in the renewables and desalination markets, Allam said that he proposes to use the holding’s $500 million portfolio in the two sectors to convince local stakeholders and conclude his first investment in Morocco within the next year. He also plans to visit the country soon for detailed discussions with Moroccan officials.

Another, Egyptian business leader, the CEO of Orascom Investment Holding Naguib Sawiris announced recently that he is willing to invest $100 million in the Moroccan tech sector with a particular focus on electric vehicle charging stations.
