Egypt is looking at strengthening its trade and investment relations with Libya and Jordan. Egypt’s Trade and Industry Minister Nevine Gamea recently had discussed with her counterparts from these countries the steps to be taken to augment the partnership on the sidelines of the 109th meeting of the Economic and Social Council of the Arab League. The event had taken place in Cairo recently.
She discussed with Minister of Economy and Trade of the Libyan Government of National Unity Mohamed al-Hawij means of fostering bilateral trade and economic relations. Both countries have agreed to start preparing technical meetings for experts to review trade and industry issues. Libya is one of the largest markets receiving Egyptian exports in 2021. Egypt’s exports to Libya was US$938 million.
Gamea’s meeting with Jordanian Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yousef Al Shamali discussed the latest developments in joint economic cooperation at the bilateral level and the trilateral level which engages Egypt, Jordan and Iraq.
The trade exchange between the two countries reached US$580 million in 2021.
