In line with Egypt’s commitment to sustainable development, the government increased the share of green projects in the national budget to 50% by the end of the current fiscal year. As part of this strategic expansion, four new projects have been added to the NWFE platform, including two renewable energy projects by Norway’s Scatec, a renewable energy project by TAQA Arabia, and the Zaafarana seawater desalination plant in Ain Sokhna.

These additions reinforce Egypt’s position as a regional hub for green investment, attracting more international partnerships and solidifying the country’s commitment to a sustainable, low-carbon future.

Egypt’s progress in green development has been further recognized by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which recently approved a US$1.3 billion loan from the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF). This funding will support structural reforms in Egypt’s green transition, including the expansion of the NWFE platform with new projects that enhance sustainability and economic resilience.
