Egypt will host the 21st Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Summit next Tuesday. It will have participation of representatives of African member states and will be held in the new administrative capital. This information was given by Egypt’s Minister of Trade and Industry Nevin Gamae. COMESA Secretary General Chileshe Kapwepwe was also present at the meeting when he briefed the press prior to the COMESA meeting. Egypt will lead the presidency of COMESA. Earlier, in 2001 Egypt had taken up the presidency.

COMESA has a free trade area, with 19 member states. It launched a customs union in 2009. The countries in the grouping include Burundi, Comoros, D.R. Congo, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Rwanda, Seychelles, Sudan, Swaziland. Uganda, Zambia and  Zimbabwe.
