 Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, President of Egypt has ordered the government to halt all construction activities, except for national projects, in Cairo, Alexandria and Giza, for a period of six months. In view of the order, Projects Local Development Minister Mahmoud Sharawi announced the cabinet decision to halt building permits effective as of 24 May. He also notified all local governors including those of Greater Cairo and Alexandria to make sure the order is fully implemented.
According to local media, the rationale behind the cabinet’s decision as not revealed. The minister also warned that any violation attempts, will be dealt with strictly and tried before a military court.
