Egypt has already taken serious steps to join the league of hydrogen-producing countries, according to Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla. He was speaking at the 1st Unlocking Industries – Hydrogen in Africa, an event held as part of the German-African Energy Days, which ran from June 1 to 10.
A specialized multi-ministerial committee is currently working on a hydrogen production strategy. Egypt also has competitive advantages to make bold inroads into the hydrogen industry, especially its natural gas resources to support blue hydrogen production.
The North African country also has a large domestic market of hydrogen consuming industries. The conference explored country insights on hydrogen potential and business opportunities and discussions on the necessary strategic approaches for private sector and politics.
This is the first ever premium event in German, European and African hydrogen cooperation and a starting point for unlocking industries worldwide through hydrogen in Africa.
