Egyptian Minister of Business Sector, Hisham Tawfik, said that in 2022 the first bus powered by natural gas would hit the roads. Over 70 percent of the local components of the natural gas powered buses will be sourced from manufacturing units within the country.
Regarding the textile sector in the country, the minister said that the cost of the project to develop the spinning and weaving industry would entail LE 21 billion. Of that, LE 7 billion are meant for construction of 65 buildings, LE 9.5 billion for machines and the rest to be expended for training, capital infusion and marketing.
The minister revealed that close to 60 percent of the construction work is over. Starting next April, the work of installing machines will start. The work is carried out in cooperation with the ministries of agriculture, trade and industry. Egypt is also experimenting with cultivation of short-staple cotton, which are widely used in textile and clothing sector. The quality of the short-staple cotton grown in Egypt is high. Presently, Egypt is importing short-staple cotton to the tune of LE 2 billion annually.
