The Egypt-Romania Business Forum met in Cairo recently in a bid to expand bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

Prime Minister of Egypt, Mostafa Madbouli, and his Romanian counterpart Nicolae Ciucă witnessed the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding on gas transportation between the two countries on the sidelines of the Business Forum. The MoU was signed by the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Co. (EGAS) and Romania’s state-owned Transgaz firm. EGAS Executive Managing Director Magdy Galal was quoted as saying that the MOU provides an opportunity to forge partnerships between the two parties in projects, diversify gas supply and transport and deepen energy security. MOU also covers facilitating the transition to a low-carbon energy system by integrating renewable sources into the energy mix of the two countries, he added.

Another MOU was signed in the technology and scientific research fields with the aim of expanding cooperation in the field of exchanging information, skills, and researchers and supporting joint science and technology research activities between Egypt and Romania.

According to Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli, almost 101 Romanian companies are currently operating in Egypt in sectors such as tourism, industrial, and service sectors. He revealed that Romanian investments in Egypt are currently worth up to US $104 million and urged investors from Romania to seek business opportunities offered by Egypt, especially in the healthcare, industrial, and energy sectors.
