Addressing the eighth session of the Algeria-Egypt joint higher committee held in Algiers recently, the Egyptian PM Madbouly’called for an alternate route for bilateral trade. He suggested that the existing maritime trade route between Egypt and Tunisia, which is currently under review, could be extended to reach the Algerian ports.
Madbouly along with his Algerian counterpart, Ayman Benabderrahmane, chaired the joint committee meeting that was attended by officials and Ministers of energy, higher education, housing, and trade of both countries.
Madbouly also urged both countries to escalate the bilateral trade between the two countries to match the potential of both the countries. The Algerian government’s decision to abolish its negative imports list for goods between the two countries is expected to give a push to trade exchange between the countries. The Egyptian side also sought the abolition of non-customs restrictions imposed on another list of goods and facilitate procedures of releasing goods at Algerian ports.
Egypt and Algeria have been striving to upgrade their bilateral relations at the political, economic and regional levels, including Libya, Syria, Palestine, and terrorism in Africa and the Arab world.
