The Egyptian government has announced plans to significantly expand its economic footprint in Angola by doubling the level of investment made by Egyptian companies operating in the country. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen bilateral economic cooperation and increase Egypt’s participation in major Angolan infrastructure initiatives, notably the Lobito Corridor, which is regarded as a key project for enhancing regional logistics and trade connectivity.
According to the Egyptian minister, the country’s private sector has built substantial technical and operational expertise over the past decade, earning international recognition across a wide range of industries. These include infrastructure development, petrochemicals, fertilizer production, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, trade, and industrial processing. With this experience, Egyptian companies are now well positioned to broaden their presence and scale up operations within the Angolan market.
Badr Abdelatty, leading a high-level delegation comprising representatives from 15 Egyptian companies, explained that the visit is intended to fast-track the execution of agreements signed by Presidents João Lourenço and Abdel Fattah el-Sisi during the Angolan Head of State’s official visit to Cairo in April 2025. These agreements laid the foundation for deeper economic, commercial, and investment ties between the two nations.
During a meeting with President João Lourenço, the Egyptian minister delivered a formal message from President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, reaffirming Egypt’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and expanding trade and investment flows between the two countries. The message also praised Angola’s growing regional and continental role.
Badr Abdelatty further conveyed President el-Sisi’s appreciation of João Lourenço’s leadership within the African Union, highlighting Angola’s contributions to peacebuilding, reconciliation, and sustainable development across Africa. He also commended the successful organization of the recent African Union–European Union Summit in Luanda, describing it as a milestone for continental and international cooperation.
The Egyptian minister congratulated Angola on the celebration of its 50th anniversary of national independence and recalled that both countries will commemorate 50 years of diplomatic relations in 2026, underscoring the historical depth of their partnership.
