Egypt launches high capacity dredger for Suez Canal

·        Egypt has launched the largest dredger in the Middle East, under the name Hussein Tantawi

·        It is 147.4 meters long, with a 23-meter beam, a depth of 7.7 meters, and a draft of 5.5 meters and can dredge 3,600 cubic meters of sand per hour at a length of 4 kilometers and has  a total capacity of 29,190 kilowatts

 

Egypt has launched the largest dredger in the Middle East, under the name Hussein Tantawi. Among others, who witnessed the launch ceremony held at the Netherlands, included Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority Osama Rabie. The dimensions of the dredger are unique. It is 147.4 meters long, with a 23-meter beam, a depth of 7.7 meters, and a draft of 5.5 meters and can dredge 3,600 cubic meters of sand per hour at a length of 4 kilometers and has  a total capacity of 29,190 kilowatts.

 

The launch ceremony was held at Krimpen shipyard of the Dutch shipbuilder Royal IHC.  Dredger was lowered into the water. The installation of machines and equipment will start now. Before putting it into operation, the dredger will be tested at the pier at the Netherlands.

The launch of the new dredger comes as part of a contract concluded between The Suez Canal Authority and Royal IHC to deliver two dredgers, which will be similar in design, style and technical specifications.
