Egypt’s Ministry of International Cooperation has provided development financing agreements in 2021 for developing the sustainable infrastructure of the transport sector.

The Ministry of International Cooperation’s 2021 Annual Report detailed that the development financing secured for the transportation sector in 2021 amounted to US$1.14 billion. These have come  from   development partners including the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the African Development Bank, the World Bank Group, and Austria. Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure and SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.

 The World Bank has approved a US$440 million development financing to implement a development project for  modernizing the signalling of the Cairo-Beni Suef segment of the ENR network.  This project is in addition to the ENR development project along the (Alexandria – Cairo) and (Beni Suef– Nag Hammadi) stretching over 763 km line. Importantly, the country has signed a development financing agreement with the AfDB worth US$177 million, to develop Egypt’s railways and install an automatic protection system.
