Egypt’s import of cashew nuts recorded 44,000 tons from January to September of this year as against 6,000 tons over the same period last year. This information was provided by the state-owned Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) recently.
Uganda is the largest exporter of cashew to Egypt. The other countries which export cashew are Brazil, Tanzania, and Kenya in that order. The highly nutritious cashew has several natural minerals and vitamins such as protein, Vitamins D, C, and A, Iron, calcium, and potassium. Cashew intake is advised by doctors in limited quantities since 100 grams of cashew provide 550 calories.
Health experts say cashew contains no cholesterol. Its high content of magnesium may have a role in promoting cardiovascular health and reducing the risk of heart disease and strokes.
