Egypt Imports More Tobacco

Data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) showed an increase in Egypt's tobacco and tobacco paper imports during the first quarter of this year, compared to the same period last year.

Tobacco and tobacco paper imports are among Egypt’s most important raw material imports, with their total value declining during the first quarter of this year to USD 2.209 billion, compared to USD 2.690 billion during the corresponding period in 2014, a decrease of USD 480.932 million.

Data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) showed an increase in Egypt’s tobacco and tobacco paper imports during the first quarter of this year, compared to the same period last year.

CAPMAS data estimated Egypt’s total tobacco and tobacco paper imports at approximately USD 45.226 million during the first quarter of this year, compared to USD 16.425 million during the same period last year, an increase of USD 28.801 million.

Tobacco and tobacco paper imports are among Egypt’s most important raw material imports, with their total value declining during the first quarter of this year to USD 2.209 billion, compared to USD 2.690 billion during the corresponding period in 2014, a decrease of USD 480.932 million.

 The value of Egyptian imports declined in March 2024 compared to the same period in 2024. The total value of imports reached USD 7.12 billion, compared to USD 7.91 billion in the same month of the previous year, a decline of 10%.

The Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics attributed this decline to a decrease in Egypt’s imports of certain commodities, most notably petroleum products, which amounted to USD 894 million in March 2024, compared to USD 921 million in the same month of 2024, a decline of 2.9%. This also included wheat imports, which amounted to USD 233 million in March 2024, compared to USD 423 million in the same month of 2024, a decline of 44.8%.

Imports of medicines and pharmaceutical products also decreased, reaching approximately USD 221 million in March 2024, compared to USD 286 million in the same month of 2024, a decline of 22.7%.
