Egypt and Greece are tying up to cooperate in the natural gas field. Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tareq el Molla signed a memorandum of understanding with Greek Minister for the Environment and Energy Konstantinos Skrekas to this effect recently. The MOU was signed on the sidelines of the 6th Ministerial Meeting of the East Mediterranean Gas Forum held in Cairo recently.
The highlights of the MOU are cooperation in areas like liquefied natural gas trading, relevant research and exploration activities and the actual linking of both countries’ natural gas pipeline networks. The MOU also envisages cooperation between energy companies and institutions in both countries to implement projects on the ground.
The agreement is a key step to maximize the role of natural gas in simplifying and securing the global flow of energy for reducing emissions.
