Over 6,500 tons of food arrived in Burkina Faso from ECOWAS on June 17. The supplies are intended for the internally displaced people fleeing the jihadist violence in the country.
The president of the regional community’s commission Jean Claude Kassi BROU handed over the bags to Burkina Faso’s agriculture minister. The Sahel country has asked for 10,000 tons, and the ECOWAS granted a loan of 6,579.5 tons of food, which has to be repaid.

Described as a solidarity mechanism by the ECOWAS, it is done through the organisation’s regional food security reserve. The European Union also supported humanitarian works. The supplies will help around 1, 30,000 people or 22,000 vulnerable households.
