Earthquakes leave massive destruction in KwaZulu-Natal

  • Last week the region was hit by earthquakes. some parts of KwaZulu-Natal were rocked by two earthquakes: a 4.6 magnitude quake and another estimated to be 5.1.

KwaZulu Natal in South Africa has been going through a series of natural disasters throughout the year. It experienced catastrophic floods and landslides after exceptionally heavy rainfall in April 2022. More than 400 people died and many others were left homeless. The rehabilitation of the homeless is still underway.

 Last week the region was hit by earthquakes. some parts of KwaZulu-Natal were rocked by two earthquakes: a 4.6 magnitude quake and another estimated to 5.1. The earthquakes left a trail of destruction to infrastructure and buildings. The tremors were felt in Durban and places in the north of KZN including Eshowe, Nkandla and Mtubatuba. It was reported that the roof of Siyaphambili High School in Mtubatuba – was blown off, as students were writing their final exams.
