DRC Needs Urgent Help to Address Spread of Mpox

Several reports over the past two weeks indicate that vaccines are expected to arrive soon to help combat the new strain of the virus. Congo’s President Felix Tshisekedi has also approved a USD 10 million fund to support the outbreak response.

Several patients at a temporary Mpox isolation ward in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo are in dire need of proper medical care as overwhelmed hospital staff struggle with medicine shortages and overcrowding.

These patients have been diagnosed with Mpox, a virus which was declared a global public health emergency three weeks ago.

Several international organizations have committed funds and Vaccines to African countries to contain the spread of the deadly disease which is declared as a public health emergency by the WHO. As reported by www.trendsnafrica.com, the US has also supplied 10,000 units of vaccines to Nigeria. More countries like Germany are gearing up their efforts to help the African countries in their drive to combat the disease.
