Doğuş Group, Turkey to invest in luxury hotels in Rwanda

One of the largest Turkish conglomerates, Doğuş Group, is proposing to invest in luxury resort hotels in Rwanda. Ferit Şahenk, the group chairman, met with Prime Minister Edouard Ngirente in Kigali to discuss the proposal to construct high-end luxury hotels and restaurants in Kigali and Karongi district, around the Lake Kivu belt.

Doğuş Group is one of the well-diversified Business Groups in Turkey with a portfolio of 250 companies in seven industries. Their business interests cover high-end car dealerships, retail stores, restaurants, cafes, construction companies, radio stations, and media and tourism businesses. The group currently is present in 29 countries, including the Middle East, North Africa, Eastern Europe, and Gulf Countries.

 Ferit Şahenk, the chairman of Doğuş Group, who was in Rwanda on his fourth visit remarked that they are considering making Rwanda as headquarters in the future to expand to other African countries. He added that Doğuş Construction plans to establish a regional office in Rwanda and bring on board the teams to assess all necessary technical aspects of the projects in the various sectors particularly construction.

For developing local skill, the company plans to take young Rwandans in the hospitality industry for training in Turkey. It also plans to set up a hospitality school in Rwanda.
