Ismail Omar Guelleh (73), President of Djibouti is seeking another term in the presidential election which was underway today. He is
seeking a fifth term as president of the small but strategically located nation after ruling the mineral rich country for the last 22
years.

Over 215,000 citizens are registered to vote in the ballot. His opponent is a little-known businessman, Zakaria Ismail Farah, a
56-year-old political newcomer and importer of cleaning products, whose chances are predicted to be very dim.

Guelleh became the president in 1999. The country did not see much of electioneering. Campaign posters were scarce in the capital. Most of Djibouti’s one million people reside in the capital city.  Guelleh, has clinched at least 75%of the vote in every presidential election he has contested.
