Cameroon witnessed a fashion parade in pomp and glory dedicated to the celebration of cotton. The show was titledĀ “Cotton Pride, from seed to dress”. The idea behind the celebration was unique. It was to ingrain in the minds of people the pride of cotton work and the different stages of work involved to make them aware of the stages cotton undergo before being woven into an attractive piece of cloth, a cynosure to all eyes. It was also an event to celebrate the string of actors involved in the different stages of the conversion of cotton into the final product.
Before one can wear the beautiful dress, there are people who cut cloth; there are people who sew; there are people who spin the fibres; and at the bottom of the ladder, there are people who sow the seed, water, and nurture the plant. Another set of people pick the flowers and others transport these cotton flowers to the spinning mill and the process is never-ending and cyclical, providing means for livelihood for all those involved in every stage of the process. The show depicted different stages of cloth production to make people understand the laborious process involved and appreciate the work of all actors involved; a sort of romancing the cotton.
