Cornelder de Moçambique recently invested in a computerized system that automatically detects license plate and container numbers using camera images. This system, denominated OCR (Optical Character Recognition), is a modern and intelligent portal used in the management of truck flow in several American and European cities. It has been recently implemented in the Beira Container Terminal.
The main objective for this investment was to find a technological solution to reinforce efficiencies and control the main gate accesses to the Port, whilst automating the registering of containers, IMDG classified containers through the presence of IMO stickers, container seal numbers, truck license plate numbers and recording images for security purposes.
The OCR stores high-resolution images that can be used for future reference in case of seal discrepancies or equipment damages. This is an optic recognition system that eliminates manual registration thus reducing human errors and improving overall efficiencies.

The initial feedback on efficiencies has been very positive from the Beira Port stakeholders, Beira Port will continue to strive to improve our service levels stated the Executive Managing Director Mr. Jan De Vries. The tanker that will transport the first liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the Rovuma basin is already docked in Mozambique’s territorial waters off Cabo Delgado province.
