MTN Congo has officially launched its commercial 5G services, marking a significant leap forward in the nation’s digital transformation journey. This cutting-edge technology is poised to revolutionize the country’s connectivity, unlocking new opportunities for innovation and enhancing digital services across a wide range of sectors, from education and healthcare to business and entertainment.

This comes two years after MTN Congo launched its pilot-phase 5G network in Congo in October 2022, reportedly becoming the first operator in the country to launch a 5G pilot scheme. The company’s leadership emphasized that this launch is not just a technological advancement but a pivotal moment in the Congo’s development. This launch firmly positions the country as a leader in the digital economy and paves the way for a future governed by growth in the region.

Congo’s telecoms minister, Leon Juste Ibombo, revealed that 5G tests had produced data speeds exceeding 10Gbps, enabling the operator to prepare to launch commercial 5G services in the Republic of the Congo. Ibombo added that the government “will hasten to offer operators in the sector a technologically neutral licence to establish and operate a terrestrial cellular mobile network open to the public, for the provision of electronic communication services.
