President of the Republic of Comoros Azali Assoumani announced its
index case of the novel coronavirus  on April 30, 2020. The patient is
a 50-year-old Franco-Comorian who is now admitted to a hospital. As a
precaution, borders are closed in Comoros.  Curfew is clamped between
8 p.m. and 5 a.m. The mosques are closed since it is  the  Ramadan
period. However, the country has not announced any full lockdown.
Authorities are drawing up a road map of the afflicted person to trace
the persons he came in contact with and places he had visited.

For quite some time, Comoros was one among the two countries, which
was not affected by the virus. Now the only country left is Lesotho.
South Africa is the most affected country, followed by Nigeria.
However, the intensity of the pandemic is lesser than in any other
part of the world. However, WHO has cautioned the African  governments
about taking precautionary measures to contain the virus since the
healthcare infrastructure in the region in general  is fragile.

As the pandemic is getting more spread out, there is a hue and cry
among informal workers to lift the lockdown since it is affecting
their livelihood. In countries like Nigeria, South Africa etc, public
held demonstrations to urge the governments to lift the lockdown since
they feel that adequate support is not coming from the government
sources to meet their basic requirements including food.
