Cold Solutions Kenya Ltd, first in Africa to be Certified by Prestigious USGBC

Cold Solutions Kenya Ltd has made history by becoming the only cold chain facility in Africa to be awarded the prestigious LEED Gold (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification. The Tatu City-based company was awarded this certification from the US Green Building Council (USGBC).

Cold Solutions earned the certification in the gold category just two years after its establishment. It is the second topmost cluster in the certification criteria. The LEED Gold certification, one of the most respected global benchmarks for green buildings, assesses facilities on energy efficiency, sustainable design, indoor environmental quality, and resource management. Therefore, the award highlights the company’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, and environmental responsibility in temperature-controlled storage and logistics.

The certification elevates Cold Solutions business operations to international standards as the facility is now classified as a green building. This means that it is safe for human well-being, reduces environmental impact and is energy efficient. Being the only temperature-controlled warehouse in Africa to achieve this status is a vote of confidence for its business.

The Tatu City facility, with a capacity of 18,000 pallets, showcases cutting-edge sustainability measures, including the use of solar power, ammonia refrigeration for reduced greenhouse gas emissions, and advanced water reclamation systems. Cold Solutions aims to expand its green infrastructure with plans for similar facilities in Mombasa, Rwanda, Uganda, and Tanzania, all designed to Grade A standards.
