A statement issued by both airlines stated that the agreement will boost connectivity between the UK, Europe, North America, and more than 15 destinations in Southern Africa, including South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Namibia.
British Airways’ statement said that as of now 18 destinations are available as codeshare options when travelling from Heathrow via Johannesburg and Cape Town. Codeshare tickets will be available to book for travel from February 15, 2023, onwards. Some more Southern Africa destinations will be available later after government approval. The agreement will offer more choice and flexibility for travellers. Members of British Airways’ loyalty programme, the Executive Club, will be eligible for rewards when flying on Airlink flights on a British Airways codeshare journey.
Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ Director of Network and Alliances, said that the partnership with Airlink enables British Airways customers to book a full journey on one ticket, allowing seamless travel all the way from London to their final destination. Airlink’s CEO and Managing Director, Rodger Foster added that the deal between the two airlines will be advantageous for both British Airways and Airlink’s customers, offering them more choices, itinerary options, and connectivity.
