Guterres urged the UN Security Council to address the impact of food shortages and rising prices on international peace and security. Climate and conflict are the two leading drivers of the global food crises, he added.
The combined impact of climate chaos and food crises are increasing threats to global peace, according to the United Nations chief Antonio Guterres. Speaking at the UN Security Council in New York, he underscored that climate disasters hurt food production leading to social unrest, while adding that the climate crisis was accelerating with deadly force, and last year was the hottest ever.

Specifically referring to Gaza, the UN Chief said that no one has enough to eat. Of the 700,000 hungriest people in the world, four in five inhabit that tiny strip of land. Climate change also triggers conflicts and said that 13 of the 14 countries faced humanitarian crises before the crisis, which they are presently undergoing. Analysts opine that he might have alluded to some of the Sahel region countries, which are facing the double whammy of food shortages and at the same time coups and attempted coups, which have grossly eroded their political stability.
